Welcome to the official website of the Tallahassee Tennis Titans youth tennis team. This site is set up with the purpose of
useful information for those who wish to enroll their sons or daughters into a successful tennis program where kids learn to play tennis
through drills, personalized instruction, and by playing many practice matches.
The team consists of coaches and parents who work hard with their children and who treat them as young athletes who strive to not only
improve upon their known tennis skills but who also work to learn new ones as they train in groups of players while practicing drills,
game situations or scenarios or play various singles or doubles matches.
Our philosophy is to allow young players to hit the ground running so they start their tennis training learning the ground strokes
quickly through repetition, games and various drills. Young players master basic ground strokes such as forehand, backhand and volley
right away so they can feel comfortable with hitting the ball over the net when they stand opposite other players on the tennis court.
This makes the sport more fun for everyone and encourages hours of play time on the court with other tennis players.
After a few weeks of learning the ground strokes, the players will learn the serve, the smash and the lob. Once the overhead strokes
are mastered through drills and games, players will receive more detailed instruction in game rules, scoring, etiquette, positioning,
and the differences between playing in singles or doubles matches.
Intermediate level players will be introduced to the concept of adding effect to the tennis ball by hitting with topspin or by using
the backspin or slice and the sides pin. More advanced players may try the serve with spin as well. Players also learn how to apply and
replace the grip on the tennis racket and they will also learn what the different bevels are on the racket handle and when to use them.
Lastly, players may start hitting against a ball machine and some may learn how to apply a new string to an unstrung racket if a string
machine is available in class.
Our goal is to transform our youth into well-rounded athletes who can not only play well in their age category when participating in a
tournament, but they can score or umpire a match, they can grip or string a racket, and they can assist, teach or coach other youth players
who come after them and who are less experienced. In the end, they will become tennis players who will be well-liked by all other players
because they know how to play on or off the court because of exceptional training and preparation. We encourage and foster commitment,
discipline and good sportsmanship at all times and everywhere for all our athletes because well-trained players make better students in
school and well disciplined children at home.
